Volunteering is sometimes challenging, but at the same time, it is developing and fulfilling. Read feedback from our Volunteers to learn how they evaluate their experience in 2023-ESC51 project and make your own conclusions if it’s worth it 🐝
I had a very positive experience overall. Being with fellow participants from my own country created a sense of comfort, while working with Spanish coordinators gave me the chance to explore a new culture and gain different perspectives.
The main challenge was language barrier when communicating with Spanish coordinators. However, this pushed me to improve my English and use non-verbal communication. Cultural differences also brought small adaptation issues at first, but we managed to overcome them.
I improved my intercultural communication, teamwork, and empathy skills. I also learned to be more patient, open-minded, and adaptable. This experience contributed a lot to both my personal and social development.

My overall experience was a solid 4 out of 5. I really enjoyed meeting new people and genuinely connecting with the local Galician community in Cambados. I never had a negative experience with them—everyone was incredibly welcoming and helpful.
The biggest challenge for me was adapting to a new culture, but I was fortunate to be surrounded by people who made that transition much easier. I think I brought a soothing, calm, and easy-going presence to the project, and in a way, I may have served as a bridge between others.
I would absolutely love to be part of this project again! I had so many peaceful, mind-easing moments throughout the experience. Thanks to this project, I learned to connect with nature – something new for a city girl like me.
